Nama Center supports the launch of the Al Shomous company website

Under the continued support and sponsorship of the Center for Social Development (Nama), Al-Shomous Products & Tea Company – founded and run by Qatari entrepreneur and chef Shams al-Qassabi – officially launched its website on Wednesday, intended to display and sell more than 400 natural food products.
The official ceremony was attended by HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Chairman of Al Faisal Holding Company; Ahmed Mohamed al-Kuwari, CEO of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, and Mira bint Abdullah al-Misnad, founder of the Modern Family Programme.

A presentation of Al Shomous’ natural products highlighted the great support the company has received from the Nama Center over the years, which has taken the name of Al Shomous across Qatari borders to the Gulf and to reach international levels.

Al-Qassabi, the first Qatari woman to start a business and open a popular restaurant in Souq Waqif, said, “I am very proud to launch the website of Al Shomous Products and Tea Company, which is a remarkable milestone on our way, and allows us to reach a new and wide audience of customers locally, regionally and globally. Al-Qassabi’s first steps with the Al Shomous company date back to June 30, 2001, when she participated in the exhibition of modern families organized by the House of Social Development at that time. Armed with will and determination, she managed to put together a variety of spices, pickles, ground herbs and various mixtures with passion. As a result, al-Qassabi’s business grew, leading her to open her first store in her home. Then, the major leap in her career came in 2004 when she opened her personal store in Souq Waqif, making her the first Qatari female trader in the market.
