Arabic Language Center Abu Dhabi Launches Digital Arabic Lexicon Website

ABU DHABI, 5 April 2022 – The Arabic Language Center Abu Dhabi (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), has launched the Digital Arabic Lexicon website for support and enhance Arabic content online and establish an integrated digital reference for Arabic speakers and non-speakers.

The launch covers the first phase of the project, with additional stages planned to be completed successively. The website presents the most common Arabic expressions according to digital Arabic blogs, with an innovative design including advanced features and illustrations that accompany each term, audio features to learn correct pronunciations and other options to clarify ideas and provide detailed explanations for non-Arabs. speakers.

The site categorizes words alphabetically and in simplified lists that allow users to browse words by how many letters they are made up of. This allows visitors to access a wider vocabulary and explore many contexts and meanings in Arabic and English.

“Abu Dhabi’s Arabic Language Center continues its efforts to position Arabic as a leading cultural, creative and academic language, as well as to promote language proficiency among community members – speakers natives and non-natives,” said Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the ALC.

“We are always exploring ways to use advanced technologies to our advantage and harness them to promote the Arabic language, which is incredibly rich in expressive vocabulary. The Arabic digital lexicon will be a great asset for language learners and a true treasure trove of knowledge and culture that highlights the great value that our Arabic language adds to the world.

The website includes a “Word of the Day” feature that allows visitors to explore the wide range of Arabic vocabulary. It offers users a free membership which comes with many beneficial features such as saving “favorites” search options to quickly return to at any time.
